Fonctions : | According to oral tradition it is stated that Mary Harris made this dress for her granddaughter Dora Sayers when she was little. Dora Sayers (1915-2004) was the second child of Annie and Beverley Sayers of Clarkson and grew up near her grandparents Arthur and Mary Harris of Benares. When Dora's father went overseas to prepare for war she, along with her mother Annie and her older brother Geoffrey, lived for a short time at Benares. During her childhood she caught the Spanish Flu from returning soldiers and was in poor health; fortunately she recovered. In 1936, at the age of 21, Dora left Clarkson to pursue acting in New York City; she was successful on a number of touring stage shows and remained living in the United States for most of her life. She died in 2004 but is buried in SpringCreek Cemetery next to her mother Annie. |
