Description : | Black and white glossy photograph of Mrs. W. E. Archer in period dress kneeling beside a cradle with a doll in it. Flowered wall paper and a window and a window are in the background. A child's chair with a doll and a quilt are visible in the foreground. On the back a stamp reads: "If reproduced please credit Ontario Hydro, Photography Section, Public Relations Div. Neg. Fonctions : | Photograph was kept by Mary Fix, former Reeve and member of Toronto Township Historical Foundation. Mrs. Margaret Archer (d. 2010) and her husband Walker Earle Archer (1911-1976) were involved with the restoration of the Bradley museum in the 1960s. Mr. Archer was the president of the Museum board for several years while his wife served as secretary. Their son Robert as well as their daughter Christina was involved in the early days of the Bradley Museum. The Archers moved to Toronto Township in 1949 and bought four acres of land at 1000 Dundas Street West, near Erindale Station Road. The Archers lived in a small wooden shack for two years before being able to complete their house which they built using bricks from the Cooksville Brick Yard. Mr. Walker Archer was a WWII veteran who was able to purchase land through a government loan offered through the Veterans Land Act. The Archers purchased their land from the Shackleton Family who owned land that was originally granted to the King Family. |
