Commentaires : | Herbert Whittaker designed a 1945 production of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, by William Shakespeare, presented by The Shakespeare Society of Montreal at Moyse Hall in Montreal. The production was directed by Roberta Beatty and produced by Charles Rittenhouse, and was the first production of the revived Shakespeare Society. Herbert Whittaker (1910-2006) spent much of his life in the service of Canadian theatre. Beginning as a stage designer and director in Montreal, Whittaker became the theatre critic for The Globe and Mail from 1949-1975. He was the first national chairman of the Canadian Theatre Critics Association, founding chairman of the Toronto Drama Bench, an Officer to the Order of Canada, and founding chairman of Theatre Museum Canada. |
