Commentaires : | Drawknives are multi - functional tools that were a staple on farms and carpenter shops until the mid 1900's. Most often made of wrought iron, they had a thin strip of carbon steel that was welded onto the blade and then thinned to create a sharp edge. The wrought iron bar is drawn out at either end to create tangs, and then the blade is tempered. In order to amke the drawknife easier to handle, iron pieces are welded to the end of the tang at right angles, and then wooden handles with bored holes are driven onto the tangsDrawknives are used by woodworkers to remove shavings from the wood, pulling the knife towards themselves. Depending on the skill of the woodworker, concave or convex curves can be created using the tool. |
