Description : | A painting made on a ship window. It represents the ship "Alert" in a sea of ice. On each corner of this rectangular-shaped picture, a round-shaped picture can be seen. On top and bottom left corner. The pictures show the crew on ice floe, transporting material on a sledge. On top right corner, the crew qith tents can be seen. On the bottom right corner the picture shows the ship in a sea of ice. Each picture is surrounded by rope. The oppsite side of the glass is painted in white. The wooden frame is of rectangular form. There is a piece of metal with a hole on left section of the frame. On the back of the frame, on top section, a stuck piece of paper reads: "Stern Cabin windows fron the "Artic" in wich ship capt. J.E. Bernier explored the artic regions 1909-10. When the ship was sold for salvage the horn. Richard Turner, father of gen. Sir Richard Turner, V.C. procured the windows and has scenes of the artic painted thereon". A hanging wire is strung over the back. |
