Description : It is a large floor safe. The safe is made out of metal and is painted black with red and white designs on the front. On the front is written "Reid Newfoundland Co." over the door to the safe. On the door of the safe is written "J & J Taylor- Toronto Safe Works" The door has a combination lock and a knob to release the locking mechanism inside the safe.
Fonctions : The safe was likely purchased when the St John's Railway Station was built in 1903. It was manufactured by Taylor Sage Works (est. 1855) of 141 Front Street East, Toronto. The safe was left in the station under the Railway Settlement Act of 1923, at which time the only things removed by the Reids were their own private papers.
