Description : This is a leather pouch that opens in two flaps much like a note pad. The upper edge of the sabretache cover is straight while the bottom edge is curving. The border of both flaps is tan leather while the centre is made of red cloth. Attached to the upper edge are straps that would fasten on to a belt.
Commentaires : The sabretache was an item occasionally worn as part of a military uniform during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Fonctions : This cover was used by Canadian cavalry soldiers to protect the ornate designs found on most sabretaches of the day. It was a pouch used to hold maps or documents and would be suspended from the soldier's sword belt.
Étiquette ou poinçon : Imprinted on inside at cover is VIII in a circle, etc.
