Description : | Bowl; unfinished wood; smooth; wide and shallow; wood grain and cracks visible on bowl surface. Lip is flat, 1.5 cm wide. Surface scratches, dents, and nicks from chopping cover the inside. One large crack splits the bowl all the way through. Runs from the lip and continues 3/4 of the way across the diameter. Dark accretions on lip, possibly from original use. |
Commentaires : | This bowl would have been used to finely mince meat and vegetables. It would have been accompanied with a long crescent shaped knife with a wooden handle--attached to both ends of the crescent--curved to the shape of the bowl (sometimes called a Mezzaluna knife). The chopper would move the knife back and forth in a rocking motion along the edge of the blade. |
