Description : | Cushion; fabric, velvet, cotton; black, red, blue, brown, yellow; cover is pieced together using small pieces of material in diamond shapes in a pin wheel pattern; multiple colour and patterned material; each piece is backed with old newspaper; by design, there are a few areas that do not have fabric leaving on open diamond shape; each piece is embroidered around edges in a contrasting coloured thread. |
Commentaires : | The cushion cover has been made in a necker cube illusion, where fabric swatches in cube shape appear two dimensional. Necker cube was used commonly as a decoration in ancient times in such thing as flooring patterns. Newspaper was used as a backing in achieving a drum skin type tension or could have had a pattern drawn on it. Most stabilizers are removed once the embroidery has been finished. The embroidery was not done on the seams so it is decorative not functional. A number of different types of embroidery stitches were used on this cushion including the featherstitch and arrowhead stitch etc. |
