Description : carved wall clock; white face; roman numerals; carved case; reverse painting of fruit on front with a mirror underneath; rings on the hour. hotchkiss and benedict double deck style shelf clock of mahogany veneer. case exterior is decorated with flat pilasters and carved capitals. brightly coloured print of fruit and flowers adorns the top glass window. clock movement is 8-day brass type and was patented by asa munger c. 1830.
Commentaires : In 1833, Asa Munger won a contract with the State of New York to use labour at the Auburn State Prison to construct his clocks. A partnership with Thaddeus Benedict was formed in May of that year. In November, 1833, Munger left the partnership and Benedict formed a new business with Hotchkiss who continued to produce clocks with Munger's 8-day movement until 1837.
