Description : A large, metal, coffee grinder. The artifact initially consists of two (2) red painted iron work sides that each have an absract design in its centre. Each exterior side has been decorated with several gold painted abstract designs. Connecting the two (2) side portions are two (2) tubular rods, and a black and gold painted segment of wrought iron. The sides rise to a flat, square, horizontal platform, and upon this has been bolted the grinding mechanism. This displays a red background, and upon it '17' appears inblack and gold paint. Passing horizontally through the grinding mechanism is a metal rod, and at each end of this component has been affixed a large metal wheel. These have been painted red, blue, and gold, and upon the side of each rim is 'COLES MFG CO.PHILADELPHIA PA.' appears in raised gold painted letters. Attached to the top of the grinding mechanism is a red painted urn shaped holder, and this in turn displays a black metal lid. b) L. 28.8cm W. 21.5cm H. 10.6cm A rectangularly shaped wooden drawer. It consists of five pieces of wood that have all been joined together. On the front piece of wood has been attached a white circular glazed ceramic knob. The grinder itself is in excellent shap, but due to its condition the tray was replaced by a reproduction. Circa: 1900-1919.
