| Description : | Entirely hand sewn bloomers of a light weight white cotton, with a open waist at back, crotch, and upper leg. Near outer hem just above leg seam in black ink is '9602-664' above '23'. Each leg is made of a separate piece of material hemed on each side with a running stitch. Each has three darts 6.0cm appart at top, facing centre. The two legs have been joined to form top centre front at waist by overcast stitching outer hems together seam to inside for a distance of 7.5cm. Waist is 121.0cm long. There is not a waistband but the top of bloomers are backed with a 2.5cm wide facing made up of four pieces cut on the bias of same material as bloomers. Top seam enclosed and bottom edge turned under and stitched with fine running stitch, forming a hollow tube. Right end of tube encases 34.0cm length of 112.5cm long white cotton ribbon tie, of which the other end is enclosed for a distance of 36.0cm in tube at left end. Left leg outer hem at 47.0cm meet as inner hem at point 30.0cm below front centre seam. Right leg outer hem at 47.5cm meets inner hem at point 30.5cm below front centre seam. Each are sewn into leg seams (french seams). The left 13.5cm long and the right 13.0cm long. The bottom of left leg has a 69.0 circumference, and right leg is 67.2cm. Bottom of legs have been finishedwith a minute rolled hem using an overcast stich. To this has been added a 0.3cm wide piece of intricate drawn work to which has been added 15.0cm long ruffles of the same cotton as the bloomer. The top edges have the minute rolled hem using an overcast stitch. The bottom edges measure left leg 118.0cm, and right leg 117.2cm in circumference. The bottom edges are not hemed but scallopped and finished with a tiny blanket stitch embroidery, oval shaped cutwork, stems leaves, flowers and dots done in stem stitch and satin stitch. Above this at top of ruffle is a bow 13.5cm wide by 10.0cm long made of 2.7cm wide faded green satin ribbon. Seam of ruffle is very intricate with minute overcast stitches not leaving one thread of material edge to be seen. Small yellow stain on outerhem of left leg just above inner leg seam. |
