Description : | A bodice of black puckered crape, with angled front center closure high silk collar, long fitted horizontally gathered sleeves. The bodice has a fitted lining of black shiny cotton. The left front lining is of one piece, while the back isof four pieces. The main right front is of one piece with the overlap to left closure of two pieces attatched at centre front right. A gross grain ribbon faces outer edges of fronts left and right as well as centre joint on front. This ribbon covers the butt ends of the hooks andeyes. Bodice has fifteen hook and cord closure centre to left and shoulder surface. The high collor has a three hook and a hand sewn bar closure above left shoulder seam. Sleeves are of two pieces with seams just below centre at front back of arm. A third piece faces the bottom of sleeveslit, covering the bases of the one hook and eye slit closures. Side seams and sleeve seams are open and scallopped with over cast edges. Shoulder seams are open with overcast edges. Armhole seams are closed and overcast. A ribbon loop is stitched into seam at centre back of each armhole. Bodice has eleven bones. Surface of bodice front left of bodice is of one piece gathered at outer edge of shoulder and at centre of bottom left. Gathers are repeated above this three times with 2.0cm. spacing. At inner edge of this is attatched the black silk cord to shoulder to shoulder and across shoulder seam to neck. Right front has been cut of one piece and has the same gathers as the left. A piece of fine black silk with top end having six verticale tucks with black net lace attatched at base two tucks the gathered horisontally forms the yolk of a large ' v ' front on bodice. This is attatched next to gathers on right front all the way to centre shoulder seam and around front neck to centre left shoulder seam.Sleeves are of three pieces and underarm piece from just front of armpit to lower centre back, a back piece from lower centre backto upper back near shoulder seam. A third piece from here to just front of armpit. All three pieces are gathered horizontally down the full length of the seams. The seam joining second and third pieces is covered by a ruffle of black lace, matching lace at yoke and the ruffle around bottom of sleeves. The lace at the cap of each sleeve for a distance of 8.0cm. on right sleeve and 9.0cm onleft sleeve is wider lace of a different pattern. Back is of one piece with four rows of gathers 1.0cm. apart and 4.0cm. long centre back waist height. Bottom edge of bodice is encased in a bias made of black puckered tafata. The high collor is lined with chintze and covered with thin silk with tucks; one at centre front; one just back of right shoulder seam; and one where colar fastens. These tucks were gathered before the silk became part of the collar. |
