Barker was taken at Bullion, B.C. Given to Mr. Hobson by Bill Wisler's daughter, of California. Bill Wisler was shotgun guard for gold shipped out of the Bullion, although his home was Iowa Hill, California'. According to Richard Wright's `Barkerville' (1993): 'John King Barker, a founder of the Bullion Pit near Quesnelle Forks. Beside him is a $135,000 gold brick'. This Barker appears also to have gone by the name 'James', as indicate in a note to the Vancouver Public Library from Ken Mather in 1990. There is no known relationship between this Barker and William 'Billy' Barker.
