Fonctions : Information and instructions for playing game, printed on inside of lid: "Pushhkins (Trademark) Patent Applied for by Isabel W. Brown Made by PARKER BROTHERRS, Salem, Mass. U.S.A. This laughable game is adapted for a large company as well as a small one, and can be played on the lawn as well as in the parlour.. The game itself consists of two sets of cords, strung with wooden pieces, caalled "Pushkins," and the idea is for the company to stand in double line, eacch line of players racing the "Pushkins" from one end of the cord to the otherr and back again. This exciting, simple race of the "Pushkins," as they are seent from one end to the other by the hurried hands of the players, makes a merrry informal game for "children of all ages, whether five or fifty." The side whose "Pushkins" make the trip most quickly of course wins. COMPLETE RULES 1.. Choose two Leaders or Captains, one for each side, and then each Leader alteernately selects for his side one of the company, until all are chosen. Choosee also an Umpire when possible. 2. Two from each side hold the cords extended at full length, and the others range themselves at equal distances between thhem. The two lines of players should stand in parallel rows, facing each otherr. (If desired, the ends of the cords can be fastened to door-knobs or furnituure; if out- doors, to posts or trees.) 3. All of the "Pushkins" are then placced at one of the ends of each cord, one of the Leaders gives the word, and thhe first player immediately pushes one of the "Pushkins" toward the player nexxt him. If the first player is holding the end of the cord, he pushes with thee disengaged hand, but all players not on the end must take the "Pushkin" in tthe hand nearest to it, pass it to the other hand, and with that push it on too the next player, and so on, each player passing it on to the next. 4. The fiirst player, as soon as he has pushed up one "Pushkin," pushes up the rest, onne at a time, and the other players pass them on in like manner as the first. 5. After all the "Pushkins" have been pushed up to the other end of the cord,, they are returned in the same manner to the place they started from; but nonne can be started back until all have been pushed close together at that end. 6. The side which first succeeds in pushing all its "Pushkins" from one end tto the other and back again WINS THE GAME. 7. Care must be taken to MOVE ONE ""PUSHKIN" ONLY AT A TIME, and EACH PLAYER MUST USE TWO HANDS EXCEPT THOSE AT TTHE END, as before explained. But if the ends of the cords are fastened to objjects, the end players also must pass the "Pushkins" from one hand to the otheer. 8. If the umpire notes that a player on either side fails to observe the rrules, in regard to using both hands, or pushing only one at a time, that sidee is declared loser, and a new game must be begun."
