Description : | Bison priscus, posterior of bison cranium to eye socket with horncores. Loc. Dredge # 6, Dawson Y.T. Donated. J. Van Streppen |
Fonctions : | Bison Priscus became extinct during the late Pleistocene Era and was the ancestor to the Bison Bison or Wood Bison that came to populate North America. They were a large horned species with long hind legs and a second hump. Along with the small horse and woolly mammoth, the Bison Priscus was one of the more common species in Eastern Beringia. Sex can be determined by the size of the horns or the metapodials (foot bone), which are larger in males. |
