Description : Child's Scottish costume including; kilt, jacket and sporran made of earth tone tweed and red plaid. a) Pleated predominantly red plaid skirt with a black gabardine attached vest-type top. The top measures 27 cm. at centre back and 34.5 cm. across back at under armscye. There is a 2 button front closure. The top of the garment has been shortened by sewing in 9 cm. at the waist. It is lined with cream cotton. The skirt has a 2 button side closure and a 10.5 cm. band of padding across the back hips. The length has been altered at the waist rather sloppily. b) Matching red plaid short pants which are lined with cream cotton. The closure is a 4 bottom, 21 cm. fly front. The elasticized waist measures 33 cm. when fully stretched and has 6 block buttons sewn all around. The side length is 34 cm. c) Jacket overcoat of the outfit. It is made of light brown tweed. It has buttoned down shoulder epaulets which measure 8 cm. There is a one button front closure. The centre front length is 20.5 cm. The breast pocket measures 8.5 cm. The lower pockets are 12 cm. wide and 11.5 cm. deep. They are adorned with 3 tucks with 1 button at the end. Similarly the sleeve ends are adorned with a simulated slated cuffs, also with 3 tucks and a button at the end. The width of the sleeve hem is 13 cm. The upper sleeve length is 49 cm. and 36.5 cm. at the underarm length. The lapels are 7 cm. wide with a button hole on the left side. The collar measures 7 cm. The chest at the under armscye is 35.5 cm. The body of the jacket has a brown cotton lining. The sleeves are lined with a striped fabric. The length of the back is 48 cm. The width from side seam to side seam is 26 cm. There are 7.5 cm. vents at the end of each side seam. The edge of the garment is top stitched. There is a hole near the right pocket and a brown spot near the right lapel. The elbows have been patched as has the inside right edge. d) Tweed vest of the outfit. The fronts of the vest are tweed with 5 button closure. The same buttons are repeated on the end of tucks on the waist pockets. The edges of the pocket flaps are scalloped. The pockets are 10.5 cm. wide and 7 cm. deep. The breast pocket is 8 cm. wide and 10.5 cm. deep. The under armscye at the front measures 35.5 cm. and the centre is 24 cm. long. The back of the garment is made of medium brown cotton. It has a self belt with a metal buckle. The bottom width is 33 cm. There are 2.5 cm. slits at the end of the side seam. The under armscye chest measurement is 35 cm. The centre back length is 32.5 cm. The width across the shoulders is 25 cm. The whole garment is lined with a cream and brown striped fabric. There is a hole at the right side. e & f) A pair of red and green variegated wool socks with a 6.5 cm. cuff with red and green argyle design. The length o f the foot is 19 cm. The shaft is 23 cm. and the heel measures 5 cm. The garment is in fair condition; the heels have been darned and there is a hole in the cuff. g) Sporran It is made of very sturdy leather and seal skin fur with metal trimming. The back is leather. There is a small pocket for change at the back (5 x 5 cm.) with a leather flap which is approximately 6 cm. wide and has a scalloped edge. The flap extends into a belt loop. The rounded edge on top is trimmed with metal. The top of the front is also leather with a scalloped edge. Two thirds of the item, the lower part is made of seal skin. There are two tassels of seal skin attached with metal chains and metal balls. The item is 15 cm. long and 10.5 cm. at the widest point. The fur is worn in patches.
