Description : Coat of cream coloured sheep's wool, woven using the twining method. Around the bottom, neck and cuffs are cream coloured wool fringes. Dark brown and grey patterns are located around the bottom of the coat and sleeves and continue all around the sleeves and around the back of the coat. The patterns are triangular, around the bottom of the coat they are in five bands of dark brown equilateral triangles with four occasional grey triangular tree-like motifs around the sleeves. There is a single band of dark brown isosceles triangles. At the neck there are two carved wooden buttons, each with a hole in the center. One depicts a plumed bird in flight, the other a wolf. The coat is thickly woven and the seams are sewn together using a wool cross pattern.
Commentaires : The design of the coat is based on a traditional coat, documented in early photographs. The artist is at the forefront of the revival of Salish weaving on the Musqueam Reserve in Vancouver, which was well documented in the 1986 exhibition at the UBC Museum of Anthropology "Hands of Our Ancestors: The Revival of Salish Weaving at Musquem"; museum note 16. The artist's work is a very fine quality and is found in the collections of the Royal British Columbia Museum, Canadian Museum of Civilization and the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
