Description : CA. 34.5 L CM, MINIMUM. CONDITION: GOOD. SOME EVIDENCE OF CORROSION. DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED & GREASED, BROKEN COLLAR RIVET REPLACED. WORK PERFORMED BY TOM GOODEN. A: EMASCULAR, B: EMASCULATOR CHAIN. A: EMASCULATOR CA. 3.5 CM LONG, MINIMUM, MADE OF WHITE METAL. THE BODY OF THE ITEM IS TUBULAR IN SHAPE. ONE END HAS A BEADED COLLAR, THE OTHER END TAPERS UP ON THE UNDERSIDE & ENDS IN A PROJECTION WITH A RECTANGULAR OPENING TO ACT AS CHAIN GUIDE. THERE IS AN OVAL SHAPED HANDLE ON THE UNDERSIDE. ABOUT THREE QUARTERS OF THE BODY IS HOLLOW & OPEN AT THE TOP. THE ITEM HAS A DECORATIVE T-SHAPED HANDLE WITH A THREADED EXTENSION THAT FITS INTO THE BODY OF THE ITEM. CHAIN TENSION IS REGULATED BY ITS ATTACHMENT TO A TWO SLOT DEVICE FITTED INTO THE OPEN TOP OF THE BODY & THREADED TO FIT ON THE HANDLE EXTENSION. THE ENDS OF THE CHAIN ARE HELD IN THE SLOTS BY A WING-NUT-LIKE DEVICE WITH TWO NICKEL PLATED BRASS KNOBS. WHEN THE HANDLE IS TURNED THE SLOTTED DEVICE MOVES TO EITHER TIGHTEN OR LOOSEN THE CHAIN. B: NICKEL PLATED STEEL CHAIN 49.4 CM LONG. IT HAS A ROW ON TOP & BOTTOM OF THIRTY-THREE CLOSED LINKS ENCLOSING AN OFF-SET ROW OF LINKS IN THE CENTRE. THE LINKS ARE RIVETTED TOGETHER. THE END PIECES ARE SHAPED TO FIT THE SLOTTED DEVICE ON THE BODY OF THE ITEM.
