| Description : | House capstan; base: 2 longitudinal planks, whose front edges are held together by 3 wide transverse planks, 2 at ends, 1 in center, middle plank supports 2 vertical sticks which are jointed at top by a crosspiece, cross supports the top end of the spool of the capstan, this crosspiece is braced by 4 iron bands that run to the corners of the bottom frame, bottom of spool is set on circular iron pivot point whose spikes run up the side of the spool reinforcing it, top end of spool above crosspiece is squared and fits into the end of the capstan bar with a mortise and tenon-type joint, capstan bar is made of 2 pieces, where it fits over end of spool, held together by bolts and reinforced with plates, outer end of bar has an iron plate on its side which has a few links of chain attached to it, this chain could be used to hitch the horse to the bar |
