| Description : | Wooden Windsor style arm chair; black finish. Chair has a large "U" shaped arm/backrest supported by ten spindles; short back rail with six spindles. Back legs are columnar; front legs turned. Box Stretcher. |
| Commentaires : | Arm chair owned by William Douse (1800-1864) an influential and active Islander. During his life he fathered 13 children and still found time to be a politician, importer, land agent, ship builder, and make 49 transatlantic crossings. This chair was specially made and reinforced with iron bands to support Douse's 390 pound frame. |
