Description : | Multi coloured middle Eastern tapestry in white, blues and browns. Warp runs width wise and appears to be made from animal hair rather than sheep's wool. Most of the warp ends, or fringe, have become untwisted. Tapestry has a woven patch 5.5 x 4.5 cm. on length wise edge, although technique and pattern are the same as tapestry, the colours used are distinctly different, grey, pink and green. The patch appears to be sewn on top of original work as there is no sign of it on the back side. Stitching has become fragile with age, one corner is severely frayed, stitching between warp threads has broken in several spots on the two width wise ends. |
